After the panel shares their experience, there will be a Q&A moderated by Bedford/Lewisboro/Pound Ridge Drug Abuse Prevention Council member Sally Corbett-Turco, who is Executive Director, Stepping Stones – Historic Home of Bill & Lois Wilson, which is the National Historic Home of Bill Wilson, cofounder, Alcoholics Anonymous, and Lois Wilson, cofounder, Al-Anon Family Groups, in Katonah, NY.

Life has become radically different for our kids in a multitude of ways. Disruptions in routines and activities can make our children feel levels of stress and anxiety that they aren’t sure how to express. Many parents are wondering how to help them cope in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic and all of the changes and fear it has brought. Please join us for a discussion with Dr. Chris Bogart to learn strategies for supporting our children’s mental and emotional well-being during this uncertain time.
Dr. Bogart is co-founder and Executive Director for Sasco River Center, Sensory Kid and Southfield Center for Development. Board President of Smart Kids with Learning Disabilities; a member of the board of trustees for New Canaan Country School and as a member of the advisory board for the Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling and Education. Prior to co-founding the Sasco River Center, Dr. Bogart held various clinical positions including staff psychologist at the Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City and Director of Psychology at the Rockland Children’s Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg, New York. While serving as director, Dr. Bogart organized and administered an American Psychological Association approved externship training program for clinical psychology and social work graduate students. He supervised staff psychologists on children’s and adolescent inpatient units and he devised a hospital-wide behavior modification program for the children. Dr. Bogart has provided numerous classes, lectures and training programs on various topics such as parent education, executive functions assessment and coaching, psychological testing, and stress management. He has also conducted research studies in various areas including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Social Skills Training, and depression in children.

Dr. Gerber will speak about the broken state of our mental health system and the importance of developing better social and emotional wellness programs in our schools, workplaces, and communities to improve mental health care.
Dr. Gerber will also discuss the important role of not-for-profit psychiatric hospitals in offering a continuum of care for patients, and adequately addressing the widespread problem of patients and their families ‘falling between the cracks’.
Dr. Gerber’s topic is particularly relevant as mental health systems will need to prepare for the rapidly growing mental illness crisis due to COVID-19.
